Lawrenceville, GeorgiaJune 30, 2010 EDCO Group, Inc. has launched a digitization project at Gwinnett Hospital System (GHS). In late spring, GHS ushered in EDCO’s Solarity™ technology to optimize the speed medical records are digitized and accurately imported into patient charts. Traditionally, scanning and indexing documents into a patient’s electronic record required hours of bar-coding preparations. Solarity eliminates those expenses and related delays in the revenue cycle.

Like other healthcare facilities nationwide, GHS deals with thousands of pieces of paper that make up patient charts. Managing ongoing documents becomes a significant effort of the Health Information Management (HIM) department. EDCO on-site scanning services assist GMC in these efforts.

A process analysis for GHS indicated an estimated savings of one million dollars over three years. In addition, EDCO provides 24-hour turnaround which accelerates the entire revenue cycle. This service level has been viewed by GHS as a key benefit for the partnership. “The quicker we digitize ongoing documents, the faster we can operationalize backend processes such as coding,  billing and quality reviews; as well as, provide timely patient information for post acute care settings,” says Carol Fowler, Director of Health Information Management for GHS.

GHS currently utilizes EDCO’s hard copy storage services. “The Solarity project brings a great addition to the customer relationship,” comments Travis Atchley, Healthcare Specialist for EDCO. “Adding Solarity is simple because the solution is wrapped into a budget-friendly structure that doesn’t require capital expenditure” adds Atchley.
