Dual Export With Scanning

Pressed for time and server space, Rodney Freeman, IT Supervisor at Duncan Regional Hospital in Duncan, OK chose the online approach for backing up their scanned images.

Initially, they were using a tape system but that took days because of the large file sizes. Instead, the decision was made to export electronic images during the scanning process.

As the current records are scanned, they are sent to both BlueChip on the local network and EDCO’s underground SecureStore Data Center for remote back-up. The underground also houses Duncan’s medical record archives that EDCO had already scanned and now maintains in their SaaS system (Software as a Service) for quick access online.

EDCO freed up IT time and created efficiencies throughout Duncan Regional using a three-pronged strategy:

  1. Backfile scanning into the SaaS system for online retrieval
  2. On-site day-forward scanning for faster access through the local network
  3. Dual exporting of new images to the remote back-up system
